Best 4 Things to Do in West Texas

West Texas is rugged and remote, but that doesn’t mean that visitors cannot have the experience of a lifetime when they are there.  In fact, there is plenty for everyone to do when they arrive in this region of the state.

Here are the best 4 things to do in West Texas:

  1. View the Lights in Marfa

The town of Marfa dates back to the middle 1800s, which means that it has been around for some time.  While many people go there to see all the historic sites, others will plan a visit to see the mysterious lights that can be found on the horizon.  The best time to visit Marfa is later in the day, because the lights can only be seen at night.  These lights first presented themselves on the horizon back in 1883, and while many people have tried to find out where they are coming from, no one has discovered the answer as of yet.  Although, the answer doesn’t really matter, because the beautiful lights ensure that this part of the state and the history that it contains will never be forgotten.

  1. Hike Through Parts of Big Bend

Big Bend is the largest park within West Texas and while there is a plethora of outdoor activities for everyone to do there, hiking is the most popular one. Everyone can find a trail amongst the more than eight hundred thousand acres that includes more than one hundred miles of the Rio Grande River.  Those who do venture out onto the trails will find that they have the chance to see any number of mammals, reptiles, and birds that live within this massive park.

  1. Venture from One Small Town to the Next

The small towns in West Texas are quite far from each other, but they are definitely worth the drive for those who have never seen them before.  It is easy to assume that each small town would be the same, but ironically enough, they each offer their own view and personality.  A few small towns that visitors need to include on their list are Marathon, Del Rio, Fort Stockton, Alpine, and Presidio.

  1. Take a Ride on a Cable Car

Many travelers love hiking, and while the views from the top of Ranger Peak are wonderful, a few people want to take the easy way out to see them up close. Thankfully, the Wyler Aerial Tramway can take anyone up to the viewing platform, which is five thousand six hundred and thirty-two feet high.  The cable car ride takes approximately four minutes, which leaves everyone plenty of time to see fabulous views of not only the state of Texas but New Mexico and Mexico as well.

These may be the four best things for people to do while they are visiting West Texas, but they are not the only ones that need to be placed on an itinerary.  In fact, most visitors will need to plan their days and nights carefully, or they simply will not have the time to do everything that makes its way to their itinerary.
