Traveling the world is a desire that almost every individual has aspiration about at some point in their lives. From my previous traveling experiences, I have learnt that it has the ability to change your life in the most unexpected ways. Here are 10 reasons why you should travel more.

  1. Traveling builds character and makes you wiser and open to more opportunities. The more you see, the more you’ll realize how the world really works. Authentic experiences of cultures and people really will open your mind to endless possibilities. You can always read about the wonders of the world in history book, but picture yourself standing in the presence of one. This alone is a perfect reason to travel.

  2. You will meet different races of people in every country you step foot in. It’s amazing being connected to other cultures and people from all over the world, making more friend around the globe to keep in touch with, but you will also have people happy to let you stay at theirs when you next get itchy feet to travel. You will have the chance to visit their home turf and see their city and way of life like no other tourist would. They’ll want to show you their world, and luckily for you, you will get to see it through the eyes of the locals.

  3. Breaking the ice with new people becomes easier. There’s nothing worse than being the person who can’t make friends at work or talk to people at parties. However, when you travel you become a story teller and stories you will have to tell. When you travel you have something in common with everyone and it’s easy to find common ground. Trade stories, give advice, spread the word.

  4. Expansion your horizon. Sometimes we have prejudices against other people or other countries, simply just because we don’t understand them. Traveling will wipe these thoughts away. When you explore another country, you touch base with their culture and start to understand why they do certain things or act in a certain way. Take all the opportunities where you can immerse yourself into these cultures and truly walk in another person’s shoes. One of the best things I’ve found when traveling is that strangers are more often than not willing to help when you ask them for it.

  5. Traveling gives you the chance to enjoy living in the moment, not dwelling on the past, or predicting the future. You’ll appreciate just living in the here and now. If you wish to stay in a country a few extra days, you can just do it. If you want to stay out until early hours of the morning, do it. Learn to live in the moment and make every opportunity count. When you’re finally back home you’ll be thankful that you completely went for it.

  6. Tasting new recipes. You just can’t beat it. It might look, smell, feel or taste disgusting but suck it up and eat it. You left home for new experiences, make sure you’re doing that. There’s nothing worse than traveling thousands of miles from home to taste the familiar. Speak to locals and find out how they cook certain dishes, what ingredients they use and why. Get them to write it down on a piece of paper, don’t just stick it on your instagram stories and be done, learn the tricks of the trade and appreciate new flavors from around the world.

  7. Travelling makes people happier. This is because your mind is challenged, stretched, and you experience much more than you would in a standard 9 to 5. Just be prepared for the post-travel blues… good thing is you can always book another trip!

  8. Learn new languages. You may only learn a few phrases, or a simple please and thank you, or where is the bathroom? You might not be fluent in their language but it shows you’re willing to learn and try and this goes a long way in a foreign country. Locals will appreciate you a lot more because you want to know more about them and interact with them on a different level. No-one will laugh at you trying to speak in a different language, learn to break the barrier in a world trying to build walls.

  9. Discover your inner self-confidence. Traveling can be scary at first, especially when you arrive in a new country by yourself but believe me, you will get used to the people and the culture very quickly. You will adapt quicker than you ever thought and when you return home you can be super proud of who you’ve become and the fact that you did it all by yourself.

  10. Escape the Patterns of Everyday Life. Oftentimes we get so caught up in our daily routines and busy schedules that we forget there’s more life to live beyond our backyard. Planning a trip overseas can spark creativity and give you something to look forward to, even months in advance.
