Belgrade – the capital city of Serbia

Belgrade

“There are so many things to do in Belgrade that you will not know what to do first,” says Donna Moores, a travel writer from Handmadewriting. Besides monumental architecture, so many museums, monuments and other tourist attractions, here you can also enjoy a unique nightlife that never stops.

One of the most beautiful places in Belgrade is certainly the historic Kalemegdan fortress at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. Built at the time of the struggle against the Ottoman Empire, this fortress has been resisting time for centuries. Here you can see numerous caves and monuments, military museum, beautiful parks, the zoo, and much more.

Don’t forget to visit the magnificent 79 meters in height Church of Saint Sava, walk through Knez Mihailova Street full of restaurants, shops and other attractions, or visit the Belgrade’s Bohemian Quarter Skadarlija with numerous restaurants, bars and cafes along the cobblestones. If you are a fan of culture and art, you should visit the House of Flowers, the Nikola Tesla Museum, and the National Museum. If you visit Belgrade in summer, don’t forget to go to Ada Ciganlija, a river island known as Belgrade’s Seaside.

Finally, when the night falls, there is endless fun in discos on the river rafts, restaurants with live music, and other fun places that you will remember for a long time.

Tara National Park

The Tara National Park is located in the mountainous region of Western Serbia on 19,200 hectares connecting a group of mountain peaks – Crni Vrh, Stolac and Zvezda ranges, the Canyon of Drina with Perucac, the outskirts of a town of Bajina Basta, and the Drina River bordering Bosnia.

“If you are a fan of untouched magnificent natural landscapes, you will surely enjoy this place,” says Michael Eaton, a travel blogger from Write my essay. Dense forests, massive mountain peaks, caves, but also traditional food and hospitality of the local population will leave you breathless. You can also enjoy organised rafting and boat trips on beautiful waterfalls and river rapids and see the cottage in the middle of the Drina River.

Resavska Cave

The Resavska Cave, in eastern Serbia, is the 80 million years old wonder of nature that has formations dating back to 45 million years. Through the cave pass underground rivers flowing through the limestone bedrock creating beautiful galleries, stalactites, stalagmites, columns, draperies and flowstone waterfalls. The Resava cave was discovered in 1962 and today is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Serbia.

Monasteries

Among the most attractive tourist destinations in Serbia certainly are numerous monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church across the country. Some dating from the Middle Ages. Their unique architecture, frescoes and icons are the tourist attractions, but also the artistic and cultural heritage of Serbia.

One of the most beautiful is Studenica monastery, the endowment of Grand Prince Stefan Nemanja, a founder of the independent Serbian state, that was made in the 12th century, but there also other monasteries that you simply must visit.

Sumarice Memorial Park

Sumarice Memorial Park in Kragujevac is around 90 miles from Belgrade. It is a picturesque memorial park dedicated to the victims of Nazi Germany in the Second World War.

The most memorable is the monument “Interrupted Flight” devoted to the massive shooting of 300 students and their teachers on 21st October 1941. On the same day, from 3,000 to 7,000 ethnic Serbs were shot on this land. There are also other beautiful monuments in mostly abstract forms that artistically reflect endless sorrow blended with optimism and a desire for freedom.

As you see, you will not know what to do in Serbia first how many beautiful places it has. Besides these five places, there are so many other tourist attractions in Serbia that you can visit around the country that will literally leave you out of breath.

Such a great holiday you will surely remember for a long, long time.
