A Review of the Phenomenal Igloo Bar in New York City

Doesn’t matter, if you have just 2 days in NYC or staying for much longer, it is a must visit spot.

For years, 230 Fifth has been the place to be in New York City, simply because the spacious and airy rooftop bar was amazing.  However, once cooler nights set in, this space simply went unused until the warmer temperatures of spring arrived.

This all changed back in 2014, when the owners decided to utilize this space better during the winter months and set up inflatable igloos on the rooftop.  These igloos are all manufactured using PVC that is thick enough to keep all the elements out including wind, rain, and snow.

Each one of the pop-up igloos is designed to seat between eleven and twelve people and since they are all heated, no one needs to wear a jacket or shiver while they are enjoying a few drinks and conversation.  Of course, if any one does get cold while they are in one of the igloos, a staff member will be more than happy to provide a warm red robe to wear until the person leaves.

Those who have been inside one of the igloos at the Igloo Bar at 230 Fifth have been amazed at how functional and homey they all feel.  Guests get to sit on sofas while their feet rest upon plush rugs and everyone loves how the ambiance can be changed immediately by adjusting the light that is given off by the numerous lamps.

Every guest seems to appreciate the time and thought that has gone into this unique bar, including the types of drinks that are offered.  Each drink is a seasonally appropriate cocktail with the rum-spiced hot apple cider and the spiced whiskey martinis being the all-time favorites of many. However, no one will be able to resist the Bailey’s boozy hot chocolate and the Irish coffee.  Guests who don’t drink alcohol, or who are participating in Dry January, will find that the non-alcoholic versions are just as wonderful too!

The igloos are put in place around the middle of November each year and they stay up until sometime between the middle of March and the month of May, depending on the weather that year.  Some people prefer to go to the Igloo Bar to watch the game on one of the televisions, while others leave the televisions off and simply enjoy the magnificent panoramic views of the surrounding city.

The Igloo Bar in New York City is quite popular, which means that everyone needs to arrive early if they want the chance of claiming a space inside one of the igloos.  The reason for this is that they never accept reservations, even for the most famous person in the city.  Thankfully, they have more igloos up on the rooftop this year than in years past, so everyone has a better chance of grabbing a seat before they fill up most nights.

Everyone needs to stop into this fabulous rooftop bar when the igloos are up, simply because they offer a unique perspective of this massive city that can only be seen during the colder months of the year.
