Little History

Pairi Daiza started as an abbey known as Cambron Abbey which was established in 1148 by Anselme of Trazegnies, on the Blanche River. It was home to about 70 monks. The abbey was later dissolved in 1797 and the establishment sold to Count of Val de Beaulieu and later sold to the current owners, the Domb family. This family decided to set up a zoo, which initially started as a bird garden, and has been growing ever since.

The zoo is divided into different categories, which are mainly based on various countries across the globe. Each area has its own unique architecture, gardens and animals from that particular country.
