The Rothko Chapel is a sacred art space opened in 1971 as a landmark of modern sacred art and a sanctuary for contemplation. Founded by John and Dominique de Menil, who sought to bring world class art to Houston, and created by architect Philip Johnson and artist Mark Rothko, the Rothko Chapel marries modern art and spirituality in one sacred space. It serves as a global destination for people of all faiths and a pilgrimage site for art lovers and spiritual seekers alike. The beauty of the Chapel is that your experience alone defines it and each visit builds on the one that came before.

Let your journey of discovery start here, leading to a lifetime of growth, contemplation, and action.

You are always welcome.
